Rookie Los Angeles police officer Scott James loses his partner in a shooting and, in a form of therapy, is tasked with taking care of Maggie, a German Shepherd who lost her Marine handler in Afghanistan and who now suffers from PTSD. The relationship grows between the policeman and the dog as they help each other heal and chase his partner's killers.

Skeptical about long-term relationships, a woman approaches dating as a sort of research experiment from early on: she spends her twenties traveling from futon to futon and gathering data, figuring that one day she'll put it all together somehow and build her own perfect Frankenmate. When she meets a guy who doesn't fall for the emotionally cavalier facade she’d constructed (a guy who wants marriage and monogamy), she knows it is time to reevaluate. Her approach ultimately helps her overcome her phobia of commitment.

Tells the story of two families, one in Mumbai, India forced to give a baby up for adoption, and another in San Francisco raising a brown-skinned child from another culture.

Set in the near-future and questions the meaning of freedom and self-determination in a world without either.

The story followed a Republican candidate for president, a man backed by a female newspaper magnate who intends to deadlock the Republican convention and put forward her candidate as a compromise.
